Goodbye, Amazon

June 6, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Amazon Bookstore Coop, the country’s oldest feminist bookstore, is going to close its doors at the end of the month.  The Midwest has a concentration of feminist bookstores – A Room of One’s Own in Madison, Women and Children First in Chicago, Broad Vocabulary used to be in Milwaukee – but Amazon’s been there the longest, and it’ll be sad to see them go.  The Minnesota Post has a nice article; and some blog posts.

This also means that I’m going to fly up there next week and kick off this oral history project!  I’ll plan to post thoughts and photos from Minneapolis (where I’ll be overlapping with the Berkshires Conference on the History of Women) and then to post some analysis after.
